Hello there! Could you please identify a spare mainboard number for 1951-CTO, s/n L3-HYA19-07/04? I have to say that the sheer number of possibilities is overwhelming

Welcome to the forum.
You need a 42T0157 motherboard (Intel graphics).

Is this the only one that would work? A friend of mine has a mainboard from CTO-1952 he can give me, but not sure if there's a point to bother him.

As long as the board comes from a non-widescreen T60 and has Intel graphics (instead of ATI) it will be a drop-in replacement for what you have now (14.1" and 15" use the same boards).
Other Intel-boards -that will work for you- include: 41W1360, 41W1450, 41W1362, 41W1448
