Disable Security Chip When Removing/Replacing Hard Drive?

Hello fellow thinkpadders!

I'd just like to ask if it's necessary to disable the security chip in my T61 during system boot (through the BIOS) if I were to remove/replace my hard drive. As of this writing, according to the BIOS, the security chip is [ACTIVE]. I can't precisely recall if there was any post in the forums about this issue, but I am just concerned that if I remove my hard drive without disabling the security chip, I might encounter problems such as a bricked BIOS (i.e. a Thinkpad-looking paperweight on my study desk). :P

Thanks a lot!

I hope the mods will let this post pass through...It's not subverting any password or BIOS security illegally. It's for legitimate purposes. :)

Thanks!

You don't have to disable anything when removing the hard drive...
