According to the Lenovo site: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 62741.html your type 2007-93U laptop uses fan type 41V9932 not 41W6407.

THat is the fan for a machine with Intel graphics. It will not work on your machine

If you look at the Lenovo parts page, you'll see that fan is for Ati Firegl. That model fan was introduced for the Core2Duo equipped T60p's. If anything it'll be even more efficient.

Guys, I also need a fan replacement. My T60p is 2 1/2 years old and the fan has started making a terrible buzzing sound. I took it out last night and blew it out but it's no better.

I have a 8743-CTO. Where would I find a good fan? Are some quieter than others? Would the one listed in the original post on ebay work?

Thanks!

That T60 is completely Configured To Order (CTO) and doesn't seem to be based on any system. I can't find reference to it anywhere. Where did you get it? It may have been part of a large shipment made specially for an organisation.

To know what fan you need you need to know whether it's discrete or integrated graphics (ATI or Intel). If it's ATI (discrete) then part numbers 41V9932 and 41W6407 are the two types. If it has Intel (integrated) graphics then it'll need 41V9931 or 41W6406. Those are the only parts I can find listed by Lenovo. (That said I have an integrated cooling assembly in front of me that I got in a bunch of T60 parts that is FRU number 41W6402. <shrug>)

The only way to know for sure is to take off the palm rest (4 screws) and the keyboard (1 screw) and look for a part number on it.

Good luck

Thanks for the heads-up on that cooler assembly on ebay. My mate in Louisiana just bought me one and is going to send it here for me. I like to run my hardware cool and having a spare cooler on hand makes that so much easier.

It'd be nice to be able to just replace the fan rather than the whole heatpipe / cooler / fan assembly as fans, being mechanical units invariably fail whereas heatpipes don't but that price isn't too bad I s'pose.

Cheers,

Hehee! I did already. Awesome price! I wish there was just a fan FRU but Lenovo make you replace the whole shebang.. What a waste of resources!

Oh well, I now have the peace of mind knowing I have a spare cooler and can have NHC set to kick the fan in early, keeps my 7200rpm HDD cooler too.

Cheers,

I ordered it directly from Lenovo myself. I changed several things on it. It was the only one I ordered; not a bulk order.

I don't see that 41W6407 is the correct part number. I have the ATI FireGL. I found that 41W6409 was the correct part number for discrete graphics. ???

Thanks for your input. Does anyone know where I can find a new fan assembly at a good price? All that I'm coming across are used.

IIRC, there are two fan styles for ATi-equipped T60/p notebooks; one meant for systems running Core Duo processors and the other meant for running Core 2 Duo processors. Unfortunately I don't recall the part numbers offhand, but I do remember that there wasn't really that much difference in cooling capacity between the two. I'm using the Core Duo heatsink with my Core 2 Duo processor and have absolutely no issues.

Still trying to find a fan...does anyone know the correct PN for the Core 2 Duo?

Is there no go-to source for Thinkpad parts on the net?

From this thread here:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=79473

41W6407 is the part number for the Core 2 Duo fan. 41V9932 is the part number for the Core Duo fan. Both of these will work; I am running the 41V9932 in my C2D T60p with absolutely no issues or overheating. The differences between the two are quite minimal, and this is from someone who has done quite a bit of surgery to T60/p heat sinks.

According to the the parts list for T60/T60p widescreen (including type 8743)

41W6408 is the heat sink/fan part for integrated graphics, and
41W6409 is the heat sink/fan part for discrete graphics

Reference: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66975

They seem very similar to 41W6407 for the standard screen T60/T60p, but I don't know if they are interchangeable.
