T60 fan still on after tpfancontrol...heatsink problem?

Ok, so I recently bought a used T60 (2007-GEU). The fan was running ALL the time, so I installed tpfancontrol and I have it coming on at startup.

My CPU/GPU (dedicated ATI) temps heat up to 65*C pretty quickly, even if the computer is just sitting or I'm doing light web browsing only. I have it set for the fans to turn on at 65* but I've found that it ends up happening almost as much as before w/out tpfancontrol.

It seems like the temps just keep getting hotter and hotter. Gets to 65*, then 66*, fan comes on, lowers to 62* or 63*, then cycle repeats. I can close the lid with the computer on, walk away, and the fan will be on in a matter of minutes.

Whats my next place to troubleshoot? Will I have to open it up and go right to the heatsink???

TIA.

Try blowing compressed air through the processor slits, after removing the keyboard. That may lower the temp and reduce the instances when the fan kicks into high gear.

The dust that could have accumulated in that area these past years, esp. that you bought it as a used ThinkPad, could be responsible for the immense heating concerns.

Good luck! :)
