I just got a Sharp model #SHP139A SXGA+ for my T60 14.1".

In windows 7 it's perfect. However I need to turn off HV Expansion for me to be able to see the BIOS without an external CRT.

With HV Expansion off the BIOS is centered in the middle and not edge to edge. Outside of this there is a slight screen 'glitch' when switching from the IBM Thinkpad start screen to when it starts windows...it's only at the bottom 1/4 of the screen and only for a second or two.

Can I flash this to another type and get the BIOS working and no screen glitches?

It will only work with HW exp. set to off because the EDID doesn't contain standard timings for anything else than 1400x1050. With HW exp. set to off, the monitor will always operate at it's native resolution. I can try making a new and working EDID for you... but you'll need a registered version of powerstrip to be able to flash the monitor with the EDID.

I'd be willing to buy it.

Just a FYI for those looking to buy Powerstrip. It's not an instant purchase as most know, but now they have locked out EDID programming unless you request a PIN (which is another 12-48 hour delay)...

To get the PIN you need to send you pstrip.ini file, to get this easily go to Options->Preferences and then double-click on the Compatibility bar. This will create a shortcut to pstrip.ini on your desktop. Close Powerstrip and then reply to your confirmation email with that file and request a PIN and give the reason why.

Sort of stupid if you ask me, but too many idiots taking it out on Entech for bricking their LCDs trying to do things they don't understand.

Does anyone have the EDID for a T61 14.1" WXGA+ (1440x900)? I'm attempting to replace a broken WXGA LCD with a spare WXGA+ I have on hand. I get a picture, but it's stretched and distorted. I'm hoping it's an EDID problem, and I would like to see an original Lenovo WXGA+ EDID for comparison.

Good day,
I am about to upgrade screen for my T61, so I can post EDID's while I am at it.

My current screen is:
14.1" WXGA 1280x800 panel:
Samsung LTN141W1-L05
P/N: 42T0443
FRU: 42T0410

EDID for this screen:

Code: Select all

0x 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F

70 | 00 4C 54 4E 31 34 31 57 31 2D 4C 30 35 0A 00 22
And I have already ordered used, but genuine 14.1" WXGA+ 1440x900 panel which is:
Samsung: LTN141WD-L05
FRU: 42T0412

But I still have to wait until this screen arrives, then I promise to post EDID for it too.

Hope this will be helpful.

Hey, look at this!

For those who need to flash an EDID, check out this tool available from Lenovo itself (made available July 2012):

Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) Tool - http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS030190

This tool allows you to update the EDID on a ThinkCentre M92z, but it appears to be a 3rd party tool that runs in Windows, so it seems likely it will work for Thinkpads too. The instructions state:

How to update EDID under Windows
1. Run Nuvoton eSIO Utility Ver:0.78 under Windows.
2. Choose DP_EDID option.
3. Choose correct DP bin file from your computer.
4. Click the Execute button to flash the EDID.
5. Use the same method to flash the HDMI EDID.
6. Choose HDMI_DVI_EDID option.
7. Choose correct HDMI bin file from your computer.
8. Click the Execute button to flash the EDID.
9. After finishing both DP_EDID and HDMI_ EDID, shut down the system and remove the power cord for at least 10 seconds.

In case the Lenovo page disappears, here are the links to the tool and instructions pdf:
Nuvoton eSIO Utility - http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... tility.zip
Standard Operating Procedure For EDID Update - http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... update.pdf

I haven't had the need to use this tool to verify that it works, but maybe now there will be no need to buy PowerStrip!

@BitEngineer, the Lenovo EDID utliity does not work on a T6x, it failed for all 3 menu items, sorry. It might, however, try to flash my external monitor, which is why I disconnected the monitor while trying it out.

I did find a FREE alternative to the PowerStrip utility, called EDID_Writer.exe

http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=75745

You can actually download it from the first message on the page (on the far right is the Download link).

I converted the file full of hex constants into a C program (each constant is a character in an array of chars), and wrote out the 128 byte binary file using a for(;;) loop, then I used the edid writer tool to flash my T60 screen:

ddcw -f samsung.bin

Which solved my EDID problems :-) I could tell it was doing something because when I ran the ddcw command, the screen flashed and I was in 24x80 text mode for my command shell. Luckily, exiting the shell revealed windows below ... :-)

An interesting thing I found out about EDID mismatches is that you can boot with an external monitor that the computer recognizes, then you can use the Fn-F7 keypress (switch monitors) to display data properly on the unrecognized screen (in my case, on a 14.1 SXGA+ Samsung LTN141P4-L02. but with a different FRU than 13N7058, 13N7059), perhaps because the BIOS is not involved, only Windows is involved.
=======================
Lots of thinkpads (10+) but I would never be so stupid as to list them all because that would spam everybody's searches and people who *do* try to list them all would be jerks.

Do we know of a free EDID flashing tool that works with a T61?

Not sure if this is of any help, but here is EDID data for BOE Hydis HV150UX1-101
stock without reflash. It did not work in a T61, black screen the entire time, even
in Windows 7:

I used Moninfo to get the EDID data and was not aware that these programs
will get data from the registry if there is no EDID. Manufacturer came up as
Microsoft, is that a hint that it is coming from the Registry rather than EDID?
I have a feeling that this display has no EDID.

When I tried reading out the data in Powerstrip this error message came up:
"DDC communication from the monitor failed or is
not supported" Reverting to EDID data provided by Windows.

Hydis -101 most certainly does have an EDID chip. Flashing it properly is a whole another matter.

Are you using the paid version of Powerstrip?

I'll take your word for it on having EDID.

Yes, the paid version. I've read that it doesn't work with Intel graphics but I
find this hard to believe. I am using a system with Intel graphics.

I have one sitting in a T4x 15" lid, originally used in my T50. I haven't tried to flash it - no need for that in a T4x setup - but other people on this forum have done it.

Honestly, I can't say. My recollection is that you need XP to flash it. As for Intel vs. ATi/nVidia...I don't know.

I did see the XP comment also, and it just so happens that I have a drive
with XP on it for that system, so I'll try it.
Thanks again!

Running XP now, same thing. When I try to open the option to write EDID
the error is "An EDID EEPROM was not detected on the selected monitor."
Ran XP on laptops with both Intel and X1300 graphics, same thing.

Thanks RBS, I have seen that not looking forward to that mod, but I do
know how to solder - no problem just don't have the EEPROM.

About having to use XP with Powerstrip, I'd be willing to bet that what is
actually needed is a 32 bit OS such as Win 7 32 bit. Just tried Powerstrip
on a T60 and it was able to read and found the EEPROM to write the EDID.
This was to the display panel that was already in it, not the one in question
here but I was just testing that the program worked under Win 7 32 bit in a T60.

I put a Quanta QD14FL07 SXGA+ in my 14.1" Intel T61 (replacing its original LG XGA), appears to be a drop-in replacement although no T6x ever shipped with that panel (haven't had any issues or complications arise from its use); will the same panel work in T60/p 14.1"? (I'd assume if it works properly in T61s it'd probably also work in T60s, I do know however that it's not compatible with T4x and will damage the motherboard if used on one)

You do not need to be displaying anything to the laptop's panel to be able to write the edid, just select any attached display click update edid, and note the name on the confirmation dialog box. If the name is your external, skip that one and the next should be the QXGA."

Just found this, so I should try writting even though I get the "DDC communication from the monitor failed" message.

EDID for T61p SGXA+, I recently received a replacement screen from Ebay. The LCD was advertised LTN141P4-L02 (with FRU 42T0369 pictured). I was sent 92P6760 Samsung( SGXA+ for T43). Ok, I got tricked like many others, ouch. The seller gave me advice on soldering and blah blah. The Monitor worked on initial boot but after restart there was no display. Nvidia offers a solution with options to import and export EDID within their software. My original LCD was Toshiba LTD141EN9B. It was still viewable but failing. While the Toshiba was installed, I was able to IMPORT the EDID. Nvidia saves it as a "file". Then, after installing the 92P6760 into the laptop, using external monitor, I exported the EDID into the new screen( it has the chip), BOOM, healthy display. Now the EDID "source" for my laptop LCD is shown as "file" instead of "monitor". All works well and the screen shows the typical old "ice hockey rink" white with vibrant colors(when used with Nvidia settings). I got robbed but it worked out in the end. NO need to solder or tinker. The monitor flex cable was a lil tight and off center a fraction but not a big deal.
