mouse freeze, preventing me to "restore to factory default"

I inherit my sister's T60. The mouse pad or external mouse freeze every now and then. I tried to boot it into safe mode, but the mouse freeze even before I can select the safe mode in BIOS menu. I tried to use F11 or ThinkVantage button, again mouse freeze right before I can select on "restore system". I suspect that it is caused by some kind of virus which is smart enough to block my attempt to fix it. Is there a way that can force the system going into "restore the factory default" without using mouse? Is there a way that I can defeat this virus? Thanks!

Run a Virus scan from a bootable CD. This could easily be a hardware problem as well.

HI!Harryc:

The problem is that the mouse will be freeze very shortly after boot. I don't have a chance to do any thing.

What happens if you disable the trackpoint and touchpad in BIOS?
