T61 suddenly DOA

#1 Post by charlier26 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 9:00 pm

It was working fine one moment, now will not start at all. Push the power button, and the power light illuminates for about 1 second, then goes off. Same with or without battery in it.
Also, tried HD on another machine, it's dead too....doesn't spin at all.

Any ideas? Or is this one a paperweight?

Thanks

Charlie

Try resetting it. Pull the battery out and unplug. Push the power button a few times holding it 10 seconds the last time. Put it together and try again. Is there warranty remaining? Give me the full model number from the bar code sticker on the bottom. The format will be like 9999-XXX

If you haven't tried already I would install the hard drive in a USB enclosure to see if it spins.

Funny, just last Friday, I shut down my T42 for about a minute to move it to where I had an ethernet cable as I was going to install Windows 7. I plugged in the ethernet cable and the power supply, pressed the power button - and nothing. None of the LED's were lit even though the power supply was connected. I pressed the power button several times with no response. I then moved the T42 back where I had just brought it from, plugged in the power supply, and still nothing.

I remembered rickk's 'trick', but had never needed it before myself. I tried it, and it worked splendidly! :D

I'll have to look at the model combination number. I did in fact try the "trick" and nothing happened. I removed the drive and tried it with a USB interface, it does not spin.
When you push the power button, the light only comes on for a second then goes out. If you do it more than a few times, it won't light at all until you unplug the power cord, then plug it back in.
