500G HD in UltraBay - Not recognized

I have a Seagate 7200RPM 500G hard drive which is in a USB case and works fine attached to my T61. Today, however, I took the drive out, put it in my UltraBay HD caddy, inserted it, but the T61 will NOT see the drive. When I insert it, the HD light comes on solid, but it never "sees" the drive. I have a 320G that works fine in the caddy and I've never had this issue with any other drive.

Is there something about the SATA/IDE issue with the T61's that they can't see large HD's in the UltraBay? I've not tried installing the 500G drive in the main HD bay, so can't tell for sure about that, but it seems strange that it won't see it in the UltraBay.

Any advice?

I believe you have to jumper the drive to limit it to SATA I speed before it will work.

I have also come across this problem trying to use a Seagate 7200.4 500GB drive in an (3rd party OEM) UltraBay HD caddy - On contacting the vendor who supplied me the caddy, it turns out that the caddy's chipset/firmware is not able to access drives greater than 300GB! - any drives below 300GB is OK.

A colleague confirmed, that they are currently using a Seagate 7200.4 500GB drive also in an (3rd party OEM) UltraBay HD caddy in their T60p - They kindly let me borrow it to try out in my T60p, and can confirm all is OK - They purchased from an eBay vendor very recently.
