Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Ok I have a thinkpad T60 1953-EAU
Now on ebay you can get a nice screen for a good amount of money! so I am pretty good at working on think pads but never done a full screen replace
a bunch for some reason on ebay all of the 15 inch screens for T60 say widescreen! and I am smart enough to know this thing is no widescreen!
let me know if this setup would work
http://cgi.ebay.com/A-NEW-IBM-THINKPAD- ... 518e2df149
or this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/LENOVO-THINKPAD-T60 ... 2a01645b89

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Unless you changed it, your screen is the standard/normal 15" XGA (1024x768 resolution). That's a 4:3 ratio screen.
You can replace it with another of the same ratio, such as the SXGA+ (1400x1050) from your 2nd selection.
The first WXGA one is a widescreen and won't fit.
If you go the SXGA+ way, you can use the same LCD-cable, but you'll also need a new inverter P/N 42T0079.
Big BUT: a few people have bought T60 screens on eBay which turned out NOT to work because of a missing EDID, so check and double-check and demand a free return if it does not work.
Otherwise buy in our market forum, where a fit is guaranteed.

Thats why I love this forum ! because you guys really know what u are talking about! I just upgraded my inverter cause I thought that is why my screen was so dark and its a P/N 42T0079
So here is the choice I am going with let me know what u guys think! he has a great rating.

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
First, I assume you have no warranty left, because a free XGA screen might be better than an SXGA+ screen you pay for.
Assuming the screen works in an T60 (right eeid), the inverter you bought is the right one and the screen is the right size.

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Also, consider UXGA and QXGA screens, if it's not too high resolution for you. 1600x1200 or 2048x1536.

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Even if I had a warranty I wouldn't want another XGA screen I have owned many think-pads and this screen in the dumps !! washed out, dark and ugly and my friend also has this T60 and his looks the same he upgraded to the one I purchased and now his computer looks amazing!!! to me there no debate about this screen ! put it beside any newer computer and it just looks terrible!
I got a glossy screen with brilliant colors my friends installed his last week and I am amazed ! so if you have an original T60 get rid of the screen and you will see something amazing!!
1600x1200 or 2048x1536 yeah thats a little high for me ! Although thats a great size for photoshop

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Many of us don't care for the glossy TN crap that manufacturers try to foist on people.
IPS (what IBM/Lenovo calls FlexView) has great color rendition at any angle, even if they don't "pop out" at you. I'll take IPS's accuracy over TN's inflated contrast ratios any day.

Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
Yeah I love the flex-view screens but thats just not something you really see selling on places like ebay or amazon! and I understand that most think-pad people don't care about the gloss! but this T60 screen regardless is not something to brag about. See with thinkpad the only thing that separates it from its older machines is that quality of the new technology like faster processors,Fingerprint readers, and Screens ! but with the T60 screen they took it back to 1991.
I love thinkpad but my love isn't blind

Would you mind telling us the manufacturer and the Mfg. part number(s) of that glossy screen you got on eBay?
Thanks much.

http://search.ebay.com/310136216261 (the other result for that FRU number is a "compatible" panel, meaning it isn't that. I'd be sure to ask that seller, though.)
Of course, you said these were too high resolution, but...
http://search.ebay.com/370294157194 (1600x1200)
http://search.ebay.com/310105845382 (same, although overpriced - all the other results for that part are "compatible")
http://search.ebay.com/310105845450 (same seller as the last one, slightly better part, rather uncommon, but cheaper, oddly)
Looks like the supply of IAQX10Ns has dried up somewhat, though, although there are some listed on Google for less than those 1600x1200 panels.
All 14.1" ThinkPads have had the same LCD technology for the entire time they've been available, BTW - TN. And, 1024x768 15.0" ThinkPads were always TN. If you got a 1400x1050 panel from the factory, it would've been IPS.fry112 wrote:but this T60 screen regardless is not something to brag about. This is a 15inch screen not 14
Re: Need some help on deciding what screen to replace my laptop
I'm aware (and the panels I linked were 15",) I'm just saying, 14.1" ThinkPads have been like that the whole time.

There's a small program that can tell you what LCD is in yours.

Thanks, that's an LG Philips screen, not a glossy one as you describe, but a standard matte one.

Here's a data sheet:
http://www.gblcd.com/datacenter/lg_Phil ... 7-TL02.pdf
The only difference between TL02 and TL03 is most likely just the coating difference. It's a TN panel, but with a minimum allowed contrast ratio of 350:1. Not bad

Glossy Matte??! Almost identical don't be an [censored]!
I only said glossy because that was the what the seller was stating , Although the Matte looks better than the glossy screen on my sony so I guess I got the better screen.
