Windows XP vs Win 7 Performance Test results

Hi,

I am running an older T60P (T2500)..(2623-DDU) with 4G of RAM and a SSD.

I just installed Windows 7 (32b) and was hoping to improve performance.

I heard that Win 7 has improved capability to use all of the RAM I have installed and improved performance for SSD.

I use Performance Test 6.1 to benchmark changes I make with my computers.

Windows 7 is scoring much lower in the graphics tests as compared to XP...

I am using the ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 w/driver v: 8.561.0.0 and I was finally able to get the Catalyst Control Center to install and function.

There is clearly a performance gap between XP and Win7 in my application. I wonder if anyone out there has any ideas to improve my performance.

Here is a link to my Performance Test comparing the two operating systems. http://n8rws.com/11%2025%2009%20win%207.gif

Thanks,

This is simply not true if you are talking about using 4GB ram in T60/p. See the sticky thread.

I have both Vista Business 64-bit and Win7 Pro 32-bit installed in my T60p (I've abandoned XP for years). I use them equally and I don't feel any significant porformance diffference in my everyday use. Well, if one is picky, win7 is faster during system boot up, shutdown and especially hibernation than vista. But on the other hand, vista is slightly cooler than win7 and, I do prefer vista's default dark color theme a bit more over win7's bright blue one.

The poor graphics performance is probably because the graphics driver is not yet optimised. However, I suspect the order of performance will remain XP>Win7>Vista.

Please remember that with windows 7 and superfetch performance will increase over time, even if benchmarks do not show it. The programs you use most often will load faster than XP, especially office apps after the OS learns what programs you use and has the hard drive relatively indexed.

I look forward to optimized driver for the graphics card...
