The picture looks right. They didn't post a part number. I am making some assumptions. I assume you are talking about the machine in your signature (14" not wide-screen). I also assume their battery looks like their pictire. My hesitation relates to the fact that the 14.1" wide-screen models use a different shape battery. I assume from their description it is an original battery.

Yes, I am looking for a battery for the machine described in my signature (4:3 screen T61). I think I'll ask the seller about a part number.
Is it the case that 14 inch T60 use the same batteries that 4:3 ration 14 inch T61?

yeah, as long as it's the 14" NON-widescreen version you should be fine. ONLY the widecreen models use a different part.

The only thing that bother me a bit is whether those really are genuine Lenovo batteries? The reason of my concern is the price. As far as I can tell 50$ is really cheap.

I contacted the seller and he said that part number of this item is
FRU:92P1139.or 42T4572

Is that OK for my machine?

Yes it will work for your machine, i think we were all wondering if the battery is original (OEM) or just some cheap chinese knock off. Lots of people have used them (knock offs) and has had great results but i guess we are too picky with our machines :D

Well, as the feedback for the seller was OK I decided to take a risk and to order the battery. Can anybody say, how can I tell whether the battery is genuine when it arrives?

I checked FRU - if genuine it should be one manufactured by Panasonic.

If it isn't genuine, the battery software complains.

Finally the battery I ordered from e-buy arrived. ThinkPad Power Manager does not complain and consequently there is a chance that the item is really genuine. The only thing that seemed a bit strange to me is that Power Manager says that the battery is manufactured in 2008 but used for the first time in 2006. That seems to be impossible as far as our usual concept of time goes.

I think it might be a repackaged battery. The design capacity should be somewhere like 56.16wHrs if i remember correctly. I don't think any of them started that low.

How is the battery otherwise? Does it have a even stead flow - meaning does the battery run down without any huge drop offs?

Indeed. 51.84Wh is the initial capacity of 6-cell, 10.8V, 4.8AH T43 batteries.

Vow! This is nasty! Thank you for your input. I cannot comment on your question at this moment as I have have not used the battery that much. I once tried to run it for a couple of hours and everything seemed to be normal. It discharged from 100% to about 50% without any quirks.
I asked the seller about the discrepancy between manufacture date and first use date but his reply made no sense at all. He produced something that I can describe as a almost random string of words in English.

Anything you buy from Hong Kong, Bejing or Shanghai, is 99% likely to be a knock off - they are very good at this as far as OEM-looking labels are concerned. Two give-aways here - the first use date is before the date of manufacture (time travel hasn't been invented yet!) and the cells are Sony and not Panasonic (I guess you should count yourself lucky you got name brand cells), and finally the pigeon English is a common ploy of Chinese sellers to get around answering questions honestly.

Good luck - hopefully you will get lucky and have it last 3 years.
