Trying to upgrade my T60p, help! :D

I recently bought a new fan for my T60p and i thought, if im replacing my fan, i might as well upgrade my HD, RAM, Processor, and video card (if it all costs under $500).
The type is: 2007-93U
Product ID: 200793U
I have 1GB RAM, ~100GB HD, Intel T2600 @ 2.16GHz (2 CPUs), and ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200 (I'll put the DxDiag on the bottom),
I know that there is a hardware restriction for 3 GB for RAM. I would just like some suggestions on making this the best as possible. I want to use VMWare without it lagging the whole computer (i think the RAM upgrade will fix this). Plus i want to be able to play better games. Any suggestions on new items that are on eBay and would be capatable with my laptop would be GREATLY appreciated.
If you need anymore information just ask

I'm a total noob when it comes to hardware, so Thanks!

You may as well delete the DXDiag info, it's of no importance or use anyway.
There is no upgrade for the gfx card.
You can upgrade the RAM to 2x 2GB, even though only 3~ GB will be available.
Hard disk max. size in SATA is 500GB at the moment (WD Scorpio Blue is recommended, NOT the Black).
Or blow your inheritance on a 128GB or larger SSD.

Awww, thank sucks....
There seems like no point in getting a better processor if i cant up my graphics card....
The RAM and the HD upgrade would be helpful though....sigh....i might get a new desktop (i use this laptop for everything).
And it doesn't seem like a SSD is worth it, i could just back up the data, correct?
Is the HD this?:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
WD Western Digital Scorpio Blue
Mobile Hard Drives
500 GB, SATA 3 Gb/s, 8 MB Cache, 5400 RPM
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Also im confused about RAM, are all of them capable with my model? and will DDR3 be any faster than DDR2 on this laptop?
Thanks so much for the help! I appreciate it!

You want PC2-5300 (=667MHz) DDR2. Anything faster will just be downclocked. DDR3 isn't even physically compatible.

Awsomeness, thanks
Also, in the manual i found how to replace most things, i couldn't find anything on the RAM though, any help (i know now that this question is not very general, sorry).
~~~~~~~~~~~~
CORSAIR 4GB (2X2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Laptop Memory Model VS2GSDS667D2 - Retail
Is this correct?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is it the DIMM assembly? If so can you put multiple (2) 2GB = 4 GB RAM like the one above?
Thanks, this is one of my last questions :O

To replace the RAM, you need to take the front part of the palm rest (also called 'keyboard bezel') off. Underneath you'll find the two RAM slots.

Does anyone know whether an original 2GB RAM T60p has 1x 2GB or 2x 1GB?

Enter your TYPE and Serial No. (e.g. 2008 and 99-12345) in this screen:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... yle=lenovo
It'll tell you what that TP came with ex factory.

Is a thermal grease with:
Thermal Conductivity:>1.22W/m-k
Thermal Resistance:<0.201°C-in2/W
sufficient enough?

No idea about those figures, but if you buy Arctic Silver 5, you'll be grand.
It's one of the best and available e.g. in RadioShack or on eBay.

If I remember right, that is substantialy less efficient than Arctic Silver, which is commonly available.

I concur. A few weeks ago I upgraded to a 500Gb Blue and am very pleased with it.

I'm lazy and a quick answer to what's in a laptop or desktop for memory and available slots can be answered by using Crucial's memory scanner.
http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx
It has always worked accurately for me.

What kinds of games are you looking at playing with your T60p? I would say that with a processor upgrade (Core 2 Duo T7200 to T7600), larger, faster HDD(or SDD if you prefer) and maxing the RAM out you can get a notebook that will at least play some more modern games alright.
Probably the most tasxing game I've been playing on my T60p has been Far Cry 2. Runs smoothly, but at lower settings and at SXGA+ resolution(I have an UXGA screen on mine). I have tested(but not really benched) several games on here, so I could give you an idea what you're looking at as far as performance goes.
