T61p memory upgrade question.

Ok so i had till now 3G . 2+1.
after finding out that those memories work on my old T43. i took the 1G and put it in my T43 for a total of 2G (Win 7, and works great by the way!)

so now i need to buy another 2G stick for my T61p. the question is this.

i went to Crucial web site and they have two kinds for the same price. one is faster then the other :

DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

and

DDR2 PC2-5300 • CL=5 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-667 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64 •

i believe that the 2G in my machine is the 5300. Do i need to get the same speed as what i already have ?
or it wont make any difference ?

thanks Dan

It should work. If Crucial guarantees it will work then it's a no-brainer. If it fails return it.

Both will work the same.

i thought for dual channel , they need to be identical ?

Conventional folklore on Dual Channel says to run matched pairs. I don't know if that was a throwback to older memory controllers/technology or still holds true today. I can tell you that dual channel will work in a T61 if you mix memory parts. Whether or not that is optimal is another question entirely. Also, every time dual channel is mentioned, someone inevitably will jump into the thread and say there is no appreciable difference in a machines performance when going to/from dual channel.
FWIW you have my opinion on this subject.

What do I do in practice? I always run matched pairs :).

ordered a matched one.
fast memory wont benefit me anyhow.
