Lockup problem persisting even after motherboard replacement

The problem started a few months ago when I was using the docking station. The computer would lockup (in Windows or even in bios) when placed in or right after taken out of the dock. I'd have to manually turn off the laptop and keep trying for minutes for it to work without locking up, ie. cursor just stuck in place, everything stops. Same problem with three different hdd's, with or without aftermarket (Corsair) ram installed. Somehow, dunno if it was coincidence, the latest bios update seemed to fix the problem. Ok for a few months, I stopped using the dock and sold it shortly after the bios update anyway.
Fast forward last week, installed a dead battery to get it recalled (I usually work without a battery) and the problem happened again without end. I thought the issue was only when the laptop was moved. Called Lenovo, sent it in and they replaced the system board under warranty. Got it back and guess what. Still have the problem. I've now come to the conclusion that this only happens when I install the battery (dead). I tried shaking the laptop without the battery in and it keeps working fine. Happening with multiple batteries everytime I have one installed.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Fwiw it's a 2007-64U.
Thanks.
