T60 (2007-FRG) T2400 upgrade to T7400 (SLGFJ) not working

Got hold of a T7400 (SLGFJ) and that doesn't seem to be a good choice since the T60 won't start with this CPU. But, from what I understand it should be the same the SL9SE. Question is now, is the CPU defect or is it just the bios won't recognise the CPU due to that it's the SLGFJ and not the SL9SE?

Put the original CPU back and flash the BIOS with the latest version.

Running with the latest available bios version including that the board is a rev3.

Well, either the CPU is defect or it won't work with the T60 at all. When I turn on the power it powers up and including the CPU fan starts; quite fast after 1 or 2 seconds it's powers down again. No, errors or audio indications at all (actually I don't know what to expect in the CPU fails or is defect).

... the SLGFJ stepping is G2.

The correct SL9SE stepping is B2.

So the issue here is actually that the T60 check the stepping (CPU revision) and don't accept never versions? Guess that Lenovo doubly will release a bios update that will support never version...

what does the difference in stepping mean, in terms of features ?

Does intel do this intentionally even though they have same pinout, voltages and core sizes ?

Unlikely at this point in the product's lifecycle.

Well, it's just a new revision of the same CPU; new version.
