Win 7 Graphic performance on T61
Win 7 Graphic performance on T61
I just got some time this weekend to play with Windows 7, is it my display driver or the NVS140 is not capable of handling W7's Aero? Not to talk about scrolling webpages but even when I minimize / maximize a window is sluggish as well.
Any clues?
PS: my graphic performance in windows experience index is 4.1

are you using the Windows Update or Lenovo or nVidia driver?

Re: Win 7 Graphic performance on T61
I have Win 7 64 bit on my T61 4GB Nvidia 140M. I have Aero and scroll performance (in Firefox 3.5.6) is reasonable. (Except of course when Windows decides to take a few minutes leave of absence and keep me waiting.)
The Experience index is also 4.1, with the graphics clearly the weakest component.
The Nvidia driver is 8.16.11.8694 and I am pretty sure that came the Lenovo route.
I have noticed Windows problem mgr suggesting an update but I rightly or wrongly prefer to let the Lenovo system update to tell me what to install. It has mostly behaved fine but there were a couple of hiccups a few weeks ago, which is why Windows Action Mgr keeps suggesting I search for an update.

Re: Win 7 Graphic performance on T61
You are not alone. T61 with same GPU but only 3GB RAM running W764. I notice the same thing when using IE8 both 32 and 64 bit. Seems to happen on sites with a lot of graphics and sometimes get some mild tearing with text although tearing may not be the right word. Turning Aero off helps, don't like it anyway, but the pages are still problematic. I thoght maybe it had to do with acceleration but have not had a chance to turn it off.
I thought maybe not enough RAM was the issue but now realize its not. I think its not the card iteslf but rather the Nvidia drivers from Lenovo. Reason is read stories about people installing W7 on netbooks but thats probably the 32 bit version.
Min/Max for me is not really sluggish. No different than Vista 32. Maybe faster even. Exception would be opening Outlook.

Oddly enough i'm running it on a Intel X3100 and it runs fine for me. Aero and all the other goodies just flies. I had some issues with UAC's secure desktop prompt with the Windows drivers but i updated to the latest Intel ones and it works better. Now some time later, Windows Update is showing me there's an update for my system - Intel X3100 drivers but i can't see what version they are.

Don't get me wrong, Aero also performs well on mine. Just websites with lots of ads and text seem to be a bit slow loading and sometimes seen some effects. I think its definitely the driver based on what you say then.

That's probably flash sites that makes it all slow. Flash is definitely a CPU hog but yeah update drivers to see how that helps.
