T60 new yellowish cast

#1 Post by amy55407 » Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:30 pm

I've got an almost 3 year old T60 (still under warranty for about 2-3 months). I just noticed this evening that the screen looks kind of yellowish. I have an external monitor that has always looked a little brighter but the difference seemed more marked. What should I be investigating? Thanks.

Is the laptop used in a smoking environment?

Good point.

In addition, if you clean the screen with the wrong types of cleaners, that can cause the plastic to yellow.

No, there's been no exposure to smoke at all. I never would have thought that would do it but it makes sense.

And many of them just become yellow over time. Especially Flexviews for some reason.

Eeek! Don't tell me that! The SXGA+ IPS screen is the reason I bought this T60 (and my 'spare' R51) and hope to be using them for years to come. I wonder if it's only certain models of Flexview that go yellow as the R51 is getting on a bit now and is still fine.

I'm really spoilt having Flexviews. TN screens are so noticeably bad when I have occasion to use or view one. I'm doing everything that I can to ensure my T60 (and it's screen) lasts me as long as possible.

FWIW You should call Lenovo for service asap.

I had the same problem with my screen on my T60 flex turning slightly yellowish.

I don't quite know what the problem was but they changed the inverter and now it look as it was from day one and even brighter.

There isn't reason to be alarmed. Really, it is the nature of CCFL lamps to lose brightness over time. When they do, they also often get a yellowish cast. Unfortunately, it has been noticed that at least some Flexview screens lose brightness faster than your average screen. Fortunately, for most of them the brightness will still be bright enough, and the yellowish cast will not be so pronounced as to be noticeable and annoying. You will typically only notice it in comparison to a newer screen.
