Erratic CPU activity spikes, T60 moving very slow+hot *pic

Hey everyone. I have a T60 2007-GEU in my possession that I've been running, and has been having some heat/fan problems.

The fan will be on 80% of the time the computer is on. I installed tpfancontrol, and that helped marginally but my fan is still on a ton and the computer is very hot. CPU temps are constantly 63-65 (fans on at 65) with GPU a couple degrees below whatever the CPU is at. Nothing else is within 10*.

Then I noticed that the CPU was working seemingly constantly. See the screenshot of a windows sidebar CPU chart and notice the strange activity in CPU2. This is during a period of me not using the computer actively.

When I am using it, whether it be Firefox, music, word processing, whatever (the program open doesn't matter) the CPUs are going crazy (and now I understand why she's so hot all the time).

I'm going to take it apart and check the fan, etc. But other wise does anyone know why the CPUs could be so active all the time?

Before disassembling the whole machine, I would consider following things:
1. The high cpu activity can be traced back to the relevant processes in task manager (or Process Explorer if you prefer).
2. The high cpu activity might be caused by malware (see 1.). Scan your machine for such.
3. Check by the PC-Doctor won´t hurt in any case.

65°C on 'idle' is not normal. With browsing, downloading, word, my cpu stays at 54-55°C.

Hope this helps,

Marin

Sometimes it helps cleaning the fan by using a simple airduster. But use it carefully!
