soundcard Analog Devices AD1981HD MIDI in/out?

Hi,

I was wondering what MIDI support my ThinkPad sound card Analog Devices AD1981HD / SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio has. The thing is that I am planning on connecting a synthesizer to my ThinkPad, hence I am not really sure whether I need just a MIDI-to-USB- adapter or external USB MIDI soundcard. And a somewhat related question, are there any external USB sound cards with both MIDI in/out and surround sound 5.1 jacks?
