Scheduling backups using Rescue and Recovery

Rescue and Recovery - backups.
Does anybody know possible reasons why the auto schedule doesn't run.
I have it set monthly 1st day 0200. But it doesn't run.
It backs up fine manually.
T60 / Win XP / 1gb / using external USB drive (always connected).
