Card reader cannot read beyond 4GB

Hi all,

When I got this T61 I had this problem; the Ricoh R/RL/5C476 (II) memory card reader cannot read beyond 4GB capacity.

I later found a solution in this board and it fixed the issue.

Now, for some reason, I had to reinstall the operating system all over again and naturally the problem reappears.

Things that I tried;
- Install Windows SP3 (no go)
- Install patch from lenovo, upgrading the software for Ricoh to version 3.54.02 (no go)
- I search this forum about Ricoh but not finding what I'm looking for

Can someone please help me point out to a solution ?

Thanks.

Weird, i have a 8GB MicroSD card that i use for my Blackberry but i use the SD adapter and plug it into my T61 and it reads it just fine. I'll now have to check the full capacity but i'm sure it did read it properly.

Err, never mind.

I found the driver for it. Now it can read my 16 GB SDHC.

Thanks for reading.

Would you mind sharing what driver you found? It may be helpful for some members who find themselves in a similar situation.

Thanks :)

Ah, please forgive my manners.

Solution is
How I did it:
1) I copied C:\Windows\system32\drivers\risdtpsk.sys to somewhere safe (you can always boot in to Safe Mode)
2) I downloaded this driver, specific to the SD reader part of the Ricoh chipset. Unzip it somewhere you remember
3) Clicked Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and double clicked "Ricoh SD Host Controller"
4) Change to the Driver tab and select "Update drvier..."
5) In the Hardware Update Wizard, say No to connecting to the Internet (if presented with an opportunity to do so)
6) Select "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)"
7) Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install."
8) Click "Have Disk..."
9) Click "Browse..." and locate the unzipped files from step 2. Select risdtpsk.sys
10) Select "Ricoh SD Host Controller"

The system will then update and ask to reboot. Save all work and say yes.

After that, my 4-in-1 recognised a variety of SDHC cards (4Gb, 8Gb) as well as the 16Gb Dual channel Class 6 SDHC I wanted.

Hope this helps!
