T60p, T7600, Windows 7 64bit ATI driver needed (FireGL V5200

Hi,

I just installed a T7600 CPU in my T60p and want to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit (Windows 7).

Has anyone found a good video driver for 64 bit (or 32bit).

Note: I have not been able to find the proper windows driver for 32bit. I am running 8.561.00 which was not designed for Windows 7...

Thanks,

If you are looking only for the driver (not Catalyst Control Center - CCC), then Windows should be able to download the proper driver via windows update. Finding a working version of CCC for the FireGL card under Windows 7 is whole another story.

Thank you for the reply... I did not think windows update would work... I somehow have found a version of CCC to work with windows 7... just am worried about the driver.

.... I am very interested to hear from anyone who has installed Windows 7 64 bit on a T60p with FireGL v5200 video... My specific question: What is the driver version and release date of the driver you are using.

Thanks,

I found an improved driver which includes the CCC...

Credit goes to "ozzyboy" from the forum linked below...

I have been using this driver & ccc for a week or two... it provides improved performance in 2D and 3D according to PassMark's Performance Test software.

Here is the link:

Here is detail about the package:

This are modded by me with DHmodder from Ati Radeon desktop drivers. I have tested only on 32bit operating system (XP and 7).
For notebook use only.

I installed and it looks like all is there.
Windows7 ultimate v5250
Thank you "ozzyboy" and Turboqueef
Oh! this one was the first program I install in a clean HD after installation.
So this may be in fact the the holy grail for the firegl.
I wish it will work on OS X but not.
To bad.
You know I may even keep this book (laptop) T60p.

When running Windows 7, how much RAM does the base OS need? The T60 only goes up to 3 GB, is that enough? Vista 64 on my T61 takes 2.5 GB and that's just with Firefox running. I am considering the T60p because of the display.

You're right, its a secondary point. I am wondering if its worth it to run Windows 7 64-bit on a 32-bit system. If the base OS takes up most of the 3GB than just about any app you use will force the system to start paging / swapping badly. If that is the case, why bother running in 64-bit with a 64-bit driver. Wouldn't running 32-bit and using the 32-bit driver be better? Not directly related but not unrelated either.

I've just installed these drivers on my new old T60p. They work well. Aero works, and Powerplay changes the graphics chip clock speeds as expected. It did take a while to download though... the site that is hosting that driver did not seem to be very fast.

I tried to install this on my R51; no go. And you're right, the download took forever. The site is based in Romania, so I guess that's to be expected.

If the R51 is the one in your signature, then I wouldn't be surprised that it doesn't work - it has a Radeon 7500 and that is not supported by that driver at all.

According to Turboqueef's last post in this thread it is. :??:

38th line under XP.

You're not installing it in Windows 7? Sorry, I assumed we were talking about Windows 7 here, where it is not listed.

I just noticed that ozzyboy has posted an updated driver (10.2). I just installed it with no problems.

Not sure what updates he made.. did notice a slight improvement in 2 & 3 D performance on passmark.

I need to run for a while to determine if it will conflict with anything... will post update in future to let you know.

Note that anyone can do this mod themselves using the Mobility Modder tool: http://www.hardwareheaven.com/modtool.php (formerly known as DHModTool when the site was DriverHeaven).
Just download the desktop drivers from ATI then process with the mod tool.

I haven't used this recently but the old version worked fine for my Mobility Radeon 9700 several years ago.

I tried the Mobility Modder with the 10.8 drivers and it did not work with the FireGL V5250. Apparently support for that generation of video chips was removed with the release of the 10.3 drivers.

ATI has separate releases that include what they call 'legacy' support; the latest of these was Catalyst 10.2. Previous legacy release was 9.3.
FireGL V5250 (and Radeon X1700 which is based on the same core) is considered 'legacy'.

Just upgraded my Seagate Momentus 250GB/5400 to 500GB/7200rpm and did a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit and windows update then I install Ozziboy updated drivers (10.2 ) and then run Lenovo system updates. ATI's CCC is running as well........So far everything is running OK and no hiccups and BSOD. :D :D .
