T60 now what?
T60 now what?
I had my T60 for a while and its been great, I need to find one for my salesman and not sure if I want to let him have this and upgrade and just something for him? Can I get something newer for around $500 or should I just spend 300 to 400 on him a T60? Thanks for any suggestions!! Michael
Re: T60 now what?
You would get better answers if you indicated what you did with the machine.

I guess I didn't come across right..
I need to buy a second laptop for my salesman.
Should I just go with a T60?
Or should I buy me a new one that doesn't cost alot more than what I have now and give him mine?
Thanks

Re: T60 now what?
Rich is asking you "what do you use a computer for, and does a T60 meet your current needs"? If you run a lot of graphics intensive programs (for example) a newer machine might be recommended.
Re: T60 now what?
No, not anything special just general stuff. Thanks
Re: T60 now what?
If you are happy with yours, I suggest just buying him another basic T60. They can be gotten for under $350 with a nice configuration.

Re: T60 now what?
I wouldn't use the word "just" when talking about a T60. I bought this one last year and paid as much, if not slightly more for it than I would have paid for a similarly-specced brand new machine. Yet I reckon I got a great deal. No glossy widescreen or trendy silver and <whatever colour is the current fad> trim. No bright LEDs, no flimsy plastic. Simply a powerful, reliable, sturdy no nonsense machine with one of the best screens ever fitted to a laptop.Hornnumb2 wrote:I guess I didn't come across right..

Not only that but ThinkPads are the best supported laptops in my experience. I've often worked on other brands of laptop and wished that they had ThinkVantage System Update (TVSU) or something similar. All you need to do for a reinstall (rather than a restore) is install your OS, the network card driver and TVSU. Then select the drivers and software that you want. I've spent days and days with other machines hunting teh intarwebs trying to find drivers.
You can't buy a machine with an IPS screen new now from what I hear. That makes a well-specced T60 a very fine and increasingly rare machine indeed. Once you've got used to a FlexView screen anything else is an inferior compromise.
No "just" about it in my opinion. Do the smart thing, buy a T60. You've already got one so you know how good they are.
Cheers,
Shaun.

Re: T60 now what?
As the other guy said.
I've just upgraded from a T22. After 9 years. really, it still does what I need it to do (word, email, browse, netstumble). It runs Linux. Its a getting a little slow and a little restrictive for some stuff I'd like to do. But it needs a new battery, a larger hard drive, and another charger. Rather than upgrade and reinstall yet again, I put the cost of those against a T60... because like the other guy, Thinkpad is a rock solid laptop. I've used Vaios, and they are "cool" - but in use.. little bit to be desired. I've used Dell - they are nice too, but not as nice as my T22 (!). I've met and ran from Toshibas, and Asus/Acer/etc still make me sweat. Packhard-Hell says it all.
So £200 for a T7300 Core2Duo 2GB T60 was a no-brainer steal for me. The waiting is killing me though!
