T61 battery swap while on a/c

I know that if I HIBERNATE vista while running on battery or while plugged in to the wall socket I can swap out a discharged battery for a fresh one and resume vista using the power on button.....vista will return to operation at the same place as before hibernating.

I can't seem to find the answers to the following questions about battery swapping while plugged in to the wall socket....My goal is to use the T61 as a battery charger to swap out the fully charged battery for a discharged one....

Does the T61 support battery swap while vista is running and plugged into the a/c brick -or- can I swap batteries without going into hibernate or suspend while vista is still running on the a/c brick (while vista is running lift up the back end of the T61, remove the charged battery while plugged in to the wall socket, put in a discharged battery for charging) ???

Does the T61 support battery swap while vista is OFF and plugged into the a/c brick -or- can I swap batteries after SUSPENDing vista (not hibernating) while plugged into the a/c brick (while vista is SUSPENDED turn over the T61, remove the charged battery while plugged in to the wall socket, put in a discharged battery)??

Does anyone have a Lenovo reference which would provide the official answer to how the T61 h/w works with vista for battery swap WHEN PLUGGED INTO THE WALL SOCKET. I know the answer to battery swap while running on battery is ONLY HIBERNATE WORKS.

Yes you can hotswap the batteries, no problem.

It doesn't matter if the laptop is on or off.

so when my T61 is off meaning off-suspended (vs. off hibernated or off powered off) but plugged into the wall socket
then the battery swapped .... charged one out, discharged one in
then resumed
NO issue... vista restarts OK from the suspend state ?????

OR

it can be vista powered on and running from the wall socket power
I can reach behind and swap charged battery out, discharged battery in
NO issue... vista doesn't notice anything happening ?????

sorry if I'm skeptical but that's why I asked the questions in the first place, thanks

Just did it on my R61 while running Linux... It definitely works. I wouldn't be too worried, if it is running of AC then it is running off AC.

If you still have the factory install on your ThinkPad, you can find the Lenovo reference on your ThinkPad. Click Start, All Programs, ThinkVantage, Access Help. There you will find instructions on how to replace the battery. The Service and Troubleshooting Guide that came with your ThinkPad also gives instructions on how to replace the battery. Lenovo offers the Service and Troubleshooting Guide for download here. All these Lenovo references say: turn the computer off or hibernate it. And by turning the computer off, i would understand to power it off, to shut it down, i don't believe that putting it into stand-by would be sufficient. After that, disconnect the AC adapter and all cables from the notebook, then replace the battery.
