How to recover password from password manager?

#1 Post by Thinkboy » Thu Jan 21, 2010 8:11 am

Hi,

I cannot start password manager anymore. Which means thta I don't have access to my passwords anymore. I have to disable it to be able to browse a webpage with a login. :(

How can I recover the list of passwords stored in password manager? Does this list disappear if I reinstall it?

Thanks for any help.

I believe that forum rules does not allow password removal/extraction discussions...

If you've not made a backup of your password I don't think it's possible.
I have the same problem, Password Manager (Currently the one inside CSS 8.0) starts but it just makes a flash on the screen and it then disappears (does anybody have this same problem ?).
But if you have saved/exported your passwords at least once (I hope you made it) you should have a protected .exe somewhere.
When you double click on it it is just like another password manager opens. It asks you the password you selected when you made the backup and you will obviously see the passwords at the time you made the backup.
Unfortunately everything is grayed and you cannot make modifications ... nor save them!
In practice you have a file with a single password you can use to see all the passwords you've saved.

For the very same reason (problems with PW manager) I never use that unreliable crap.
Maybe you can do a System Restore to a date when it was still working?
Make sure to backup personal files if needed.

I know that password manager broke with the recent Firefox versions. A security app like that is not reliable if it will break easily. I do not and will not use it.
