T60 RAM upgrade - Get Lenovo speced or just any?

I have a T60, 1953-CTO with 1.5 GB RAM, a 1 GB and a .5 GB stick:

1.5 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)

I want to replace the .5 GB stick with a 2GB stick for a total of 3 GB. I'm told that 4GB would only have 3 GB seen by virtue of the limitations of the 945 chipset on the motherboard. Therefore, I figure to keep my 1GB stick and add a 2GB stick. I called Lenovo support:

Finally was connected to a Lenovo support tech rep who linked me to the page where I got the part number for the 2 GB RAM stick, 40Y7735:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 62761.html

Seems I can buy it at Ebay for $48 shipped. Should I get that or just buy a $40 2GB PC2 5300 stick? Are they apt to give the same results or is it worth it to get the "Lenovo speced" RAM for my machine?

There is no diffrece, just get the right type (ddr2) and speed (not sure for t61) there are no speed diffrences or warrenty diffreces.

Good luck

Yes, so I'll just get something like this:

2 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory, won't worry about it being "Lenovo" with that part number. With the other 1 GB stick I'll have 3 GB. Thanks.

No need for the Lenovo version, it's all the same anyways. Lenovo just buys RAM and puts their little stickers on them so that it's easy for customers to get them if/when needed. If you know what RAM to get and you can find it cheaper then no reason to not get it.
