External Monitor Doesn't Come on When Thinkpad is Re-docked

I have a user with a Thinkpad T60 who is having problems getting the external monitor to display when re-docking while awake after having undocked for a meeting. When he re-docks the external monitor comes up with the display "power save mode". What I have done is open the laptop (while docked) and go to the Intel Graphics Media Accelerrator Driver for Mobile and select the options for "Output to". As soon as I select "Output to" monitor or monitor+notebook, the external monitor display comes right on, I then close the laptop and everything stays until he undocks and re-docks while it is awake. How do I get the settings to stick to where it is just automatic without having to change the settings everytime?

Thank you!

I had a similar problem, mine won't even turn on the monitor at boot when docked in the ultrabase unless I hit FN F7
Seems like a design flaw
