New System Board, New (Higher) Temp

#1 Post by mixz1 » Wed Feb 03, 2010 11:26 am

It's a T61p 6459-CTO, purchased new in August, 2007. The planar failed last month and was replaced. The work order says system (planar) board and fan replaced. The old system idled at around 49-50 degrees C. The new board is running at 62-64 degrees C at idle but doesn't get any hotter than the old board under stress (around 76-78 degrees C).

After the system came back from the service depot, when I put the hard drive back in and rebooted the machine went through a bunch of new hardware discoveries and driver installs, so I guess that there were several component differences between the two boards. I don't know if that's significant, but I'm a bit worried about the temps. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This may be bad thermal contact/grease between CPU/GPU and heatsink.

It is CPU/GPU/system board idle temp?

GPU is running at 62. In the TPFanControl panel it is the "hottest" component. With the old system board none of the components in the TPFanControl panel exceeded 50 degrees, although under stress, like video editing or gaming, the GPU could go as high as 78. This GPU on the replacement board also gets that high, but idles at a higher temp than the old board.
