T61 half dead

Hi,

I bought my T61 in August 2007 with 3-year warranty. A few days back while working screen froze (right before I was going to backup my data!) and T61 restarted itself but display never went back and is blank since. Weird, yet fortunate, thing is that if I connect external monitor I can see it booting on it but only in safe mode (windows). So I was able to safe my data etc. Has anyone had this problem? There is probably something wrong with nVidia graphics card or MB, I suppose.

I am definitely going send it over to Lenovo but I am just wondering what's wrong with it.

Thanks.

Probably the Nvidia GPU has tanked. It's a common problem on T61's. If you can run PC-Doctor from a CD and see results on an external monitor, you should test the GPU.

What's the repair for this when the GPU goes out? I'm interested in getting a t61, but I had another laptop, an asus with a nidia graphics chip go bad on me, so I'm a bit hesitant about Nvidia chips. If I had the preference I'd go ATI all the way.

The repair is systemboard replacement.
