Run a T60 with a T43 CPU for testing

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Wed Feb 03, 2010 4:12 pm

Can you put a CPU like the Pentium M 740 (1.73GHz Dothan) from a T43 into a T60, just to test if the T60 mobo is working at all?

It defintely won't run, and you might kill the mobo. I'd buy a Core Solo T1300 to hang onto for testing. They are fully supported by T60 and R60 BIOS and under $10 delivered via eBay.

RBS, I have a 1.83Ghz Core Duo you can borrow...or buy for $30 shipped if you want to keep it for testing. Send a PM if interested.

I suggested under $10 for a test Core Solo! (Very awesome offer for a C2D, by the way.)

Ed's suggestion makes sense, and I will do that later, if/when I get in more T60s.
But I was gonna need a CPU anyway for this T60 (belonging to burns334).
So rather than spend ~$10.- now for a test-cpu, find out this T60 works, then spend another ~$40.- for a 'real' CPU, I got my T2400 actually for $35.- incl. shipping.
I deffo would have taken Harry up on his offer for the Core Duo if I hadn't bought mine already.
Harry, if it is a C2D, I'll take it!

While I have your attention, anybody have a spare cooler-clamp/bracket (for over the GPU part) + its 2 screws?
It is the small bracket (b) on page 214 HMM under Miscellaneous parts 15.0in LCD P/N 41W6302,
and better seen on page 89 HMM under 1130 Fan Assembly.

RBS, I have both a Core Duo 1.83Ghz ($30) and a Core 2 Duo 1.83hz ($50).

I'll put one in the mail to you today. It is the same part for either 14" or 15" machines, the part number you listed is just for the entire misc. kit which does have some 15" specific parts.

@underclocker: now that's the spirit, I can't thank you enough! :D

@harryc:
Is there much difference/advantage in having a C2D over a CoreDuo?

EDIT: I answered my own question by reading this: http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=2808
Slight advantage having a C2D, but only worth it if you don't have a CPU yet. Intel sells/sold them new at the same price.
And unless you do heavy 3D, it's hardly worth upgrading, unless you're one of those who always need the latest and greatest.
