Games on the T60P

#1 Post by taichi » Sun Feb 07, 2010 6:36 pm

Dare I mention it... games on the T60P?

I'm curious if anyone has any experience on what games will play on this machine.
I'm running Vista Ultimate 32
3 GB of RAM
ATI Mobility Fire GL 5200.

And I'm curious about the Advanced Dock. Does it allow the use of external graphic cards to boost graphics performance?

Thanks

taichi
By the way I tried running Can You Run It, and it seemed not to work.

The Advanced Mini Dock does not allow for extra video adapters. You are more or less stuck with the V5200.

The V5200 uses workstation graphics drivers, which are optimized for CAD modeling & such. These do not work well with games, generally. You can always run some 3rd party cracked drivers that basically run your FireGL card as its Radeon equivalent. I have played the original Far Cry at max detail & 1680x1050 with no antialiasing at a decent framerate. Oblivion also ran decently at high settings. If you want to run Crysis or something though, you have the wrong laptop.

The Advanced Dock, however, does include a 1x full-length PCI-Express slot.

It was on the basis of that that I was curious about whether this capability is simply for running multi-monitors or whether it would supplant the internal gpu, driving an external monitor.

The original Far Cry is what I'd been thinking of. That's enough of a diversion from the T60P's main use for me...writing and general applications. Far Cry would probably look beautiful on the flexview.

An even older game that is enjoyable is the original Mafia, created by Czech animators.

Thanks,
