need recommend for HD wipe software

I'm selling my T60 and for obvious reasons want to completely remove all data from it's hard drive first. Googling for 'disc wiper' type software recommendations gets me 5-7 year old posts on the subject. Lots on ebay but we know how that goes. Is there any one current retail product that works best or is at least a 'best buy' (cost effective)? I'm interested in one that does the multi-wipes per DOD standards. I bank online and am paranoid about leaving that kind of data attached. Thanks very much!

You could look up "Killdisk" or "DBAN" on search engine. I know that Killdisk has a free version (one pass) and a paid one (multiple passes; should be DOD). Not sure about DBAN as I've never used it.

I looked a DBAN and it looks like it's do what I want. Plus it's a free download! Thanks again for the help. This forum has been a godsend for me.

I have a close friend that is a big advocate of DBAN, he's also a bit paranoid about the safety of his data (a very good thing). Thus I trust this is most likely the exact program you're looking for.
Me? I'm such a sic ThinkPad enthusiast, I have sold one of mine yet...ha..ha..
.
Cheers...
