Strange HDD noise on T6x with WD Scorpio and Win7

The problem is discussed here, sorry for the redirect.

My t60 with WD Scorpio Black makes a strange HDD noise (click/whine) when Windows 7 restarts, i.e during black screen and before PowerOnSelfTest. It is probably some kind of power management issue, but I am somewhat scared.

There are reports on the net of R61 and T400 doing the same thing.

Have you noticed anything similar on your machines?

I followed the thread you posted, and one person suggested that the problem could be a conflict between the HDD and Lenovo's hard drive protection feature. Is your Scorpio Black the model with, or without, its own onboard motion sensor? Try disabling Lenovo's hard drive protection (you might have to go to BIOS to do this) and see if that resolves the problem.
