Win 7 upgrade question

#1 Post by jayk » Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:40 am

The hard drive died in my T60. I'm getting a new drive, and I'm thinking about upgrading to Windows 7. Does anyone know if I can buy the upgrade version of Windows 7 and install it without having XP installed on the new drive first? Is there a way to just enter the license code from my COA and have Windows 7 installed on my new drive?

Thanks,
Jay

PS: I know this isn't a T6x-specific question, but I wasn't sure where else to post it.

Just don't enter the key during the installation. You've got 30 days to do it. After the install is complete, go to system, you can then enter your COA key and activate it. Most times it works over the internet. Worst case is you'll have to call Microsoft and get it activated.
