Hinge problem?

#1 Post by Steved » Thu Mar 04, 2010 7:32 pm

I just received the T61p that I bought from the IBM used equipment site. All looks good except that the display is not tight. It can move (flop) about a half inch back and forth.
The hinges are tight to the base but the display attachment to the hinges is loose.

Is that easily tightened? How?

Many thanks

Easy. Download Hardware Maintenance Manual and see.

From memory - unscrew 3 screws on the bottom of screen, carefully unclip the inner black frame (very tight and glued down where the green lights are), and see whats wrong. 6 screws hold the matrix to the hinges, 3 on each side. They are under black square stick-on covers.

Edit: I misunderstood the problem. Hinge replacement is the only way

I have a T61 that does exactly as you describe.

As far as I can remember it's always been like that - doesn't cause a problem.
