T61: Loud Fan
T61: Loud Fan
The fan in my T61 is starting to get a little loud. Not constantly, just when running, off and on. I applied new thermal compound to the CPU and GPU, but still have fan noise. Is there a way to lubricate the bearings in the fan, or do I have to replace the fan assembly?

Re: T61: Loud Fan
It does not use lubrication per se. Putting any oil there will make it die quicker.
It should be possible to disassemble the metal fan assembly itself by bending the retaining tabs, if you can do this, clean it thorougly. If it doesn't help - new fan does ((
