Base System Device
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device (on PCI standard ISA bridge)
I have not been able to update the drivers for the SATA drive.
I'd appreciate any ideas.
Thanks

too late to install the Intel Chipset drivers.TTY wrote:Intel recommends that the Intel Chipset Device Software be installed onto the target system prior to installation of other drivers. I ignored this recommendation once, and i suppose it ruined my hard drive. It didn't die immediately, but after a few weeks.
Also install the Lenovo System Interface Driver.
You should use the Intel Chipset Device Software for the T61.cwc1885 wrote: these are for the t60. will they work with my t61
I suggest you tell us next time for what TYPE laptop you need advice.cwc1885 wrote: these are for the t60. will they work with my t61
It says so under point 7 of (2) System Requirements in the Readme file on Intel's site. The Readme that i linked to is for a newer version, but the recommendation about installation order has been the same for all versions that i've seen for more than ten years.cwc1885 wrote:too late to install the Intel Chipset drivers.
How did yo find this out?
If you have a hidden service partition on your current drive and it contains an OS you want to use, i'd recommend to restore the system from that service partition. If you have burned recovery media for the OS you want to use, i'd recommend to restore the system from them. If you have no recovery media, burn recovery media before proceeding, even if it means restoring the system from the hidden service partition, installing ThinkVantage Rescue and Recovery and then burning recovery media.Would you recommend a full re-install of XP?
I can't find a "Base System" driver on the site that you linked to. What do you mean by "Base System" driver?I am still having trouble installing the "Base System" drivers from the ibm web site.

The original hard drive failed. I'm using XP because that is the only legal copy of windows I have.TTY wrote:Hello cwc,
you said that you didn't make a hidden partition. The hidden partition isn't something you make yourself, Lenovo installs the hidden partition when manufacturing the notebook. Why are you installing XP? If it is because you had Vista on the disk but found it to be too slow, there are means to speed up Vista. Is the hard disk, that you're about to install XP on, the original hard disk that came with the notebook? If it is, you should be able to restore the hard disk to the state it was in when the notebook left the factory - you don't have to install an OS and all the drivers manually. When restoring the hard disk to factory content, the notebook uses the hidden service partition. If you want to restore the hard disk to factory content, press the blue ThinkVantage button as soon as you see the first screen, that informs you that you can press the blue ThinkVantage button, directly after turning on power. You are then given the choice to restore to factory content. Restoring to factory content can take up to two or three hours from what i remember.
If you install XP with AHCI turned on in BIOS, you'll need the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver.I think I'd like to try to boot from a USB floopy with the Serial ATA (SATA). AHCL.
Can I do this without the following?
Copy the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver from C:\IBMTOOLS\DRIVERS\IMSM or C:\SWTOOLS\DRIVERS\IMSM to a diskette.
The "Intel Chipset Device Software" or "Intel Chipset Support", as Lenovo calls it, will install the drivers for what's now "Base System Devices".cwc1885 wrote:Or what tools from IBMTOOLS do I need to Successfully install the "Base System Device" drivers?
