T60 Screen Replacement Problems

Hi, I have a T60 14.1" SXGA laptop, 2623-D6U... The backlight in the screen is going out, at this time it only works at minimum brightness otherwise it just turns off. Anyways, I searched online and bought a panel off ebay.. it wasn't anywhere near the price of the "OEM" panels but it wasn't the absolute cheapest either. It's a 14.1" sxga screen from "screenaid". I bought it there because they had a decent feedback rating and mentioned T60 specifically in the auction as opposed to just the p/n. I didn't want to mess with any edid stuff.


I took apart everything and installed the screen, and sadly just get some horizontal and vertical lines:

I hooked my original screen back up and verified it still works with the same inverter and cable assembly:

Did I just get a DOA screen or is there anything else I should have done to get it to work?

It looks DOA. BTW, I suggest not holding the panel the way you are in the pictures, while testing. Any pressure on the edges, especially the top edge can cause the panel to fail. When they fail, you generally get lines all over the screen (like your picture). I work on a lot of screens and have had a lot of practice, but I put the screen back into the top cover and put at least a couple of screws in before powering on, even though it takes longer

Thanks for the info. I did first fully install the screen into the laptop and *completely* put it back together, and it came up like that. Of course I think that jinxed it for me. After that I took everything apart again, and took those pictures with each hooked up. I have never worked on a laptop screen before but I do a lot of computer repairs so I hope I was gentle enough and didn't cause anything.

I definetly treated the new screen with very delicate hands ..I was careful not to touch the "Do Not Touch" areas of the screens, and I guess a little less careful with my own panel because it is already failing due to the backlight.

I hope I can get a replacement from these guys.

Argh.. seller is claiming that my laptop is SXGA and not SXGA+.. obviously I know that the current panel is 1400x1050. Can anyone confirm if there's ever even been an SXGA Thinkpad T60? I don't think I've ever seen an SXGA laptop, I've only ever seen it in older flatpanel desktop lcd monitors.

Not sure about other brands but there definitelly was no SXGA T60, just XGA, SXGA+ and UXGA (15" only).
