Hi all!

Newbie here, go easy on me

Been the proud owner of a Thinkpad T43p for a while now and has done me proud but the time has come to upgrade.

I have purchased a Thinkpad T61p 6458-5KU. Factory spec, factory refurb, factory sealed.

This by default comes with a 100GB Hard Drive and 2GB RAM.

I would like to install the following when it arrives:

320GB Seagate 7200.4 SATA drive (reviewed as being pretty much the fastest notebook hard drive out there bar an SSD)
2x 2GB PC6400 DDR2 SODIMMs

Are there likely to be any problems? Are there any other recommended upgrades / tweaks / modifications to get the most out of this notebook?

Can't wait for it to arrive :)

Shouldn't have any problem at all with the 2x2GB upgrade. I have a 6459 T61p and did this upgrade a while ago with no problems.

I haven't done an HDD upgrade on a T61p.

Yeah I was a bit worried about the HDD upgrade as the T43p I have at the moment has the BIOS restrictions on drives generating an error unless you use a specific model... and having that error makes me feel like I have a frankenpad... which I don't like!

I had a scout round here and on the thinkpad wiki couldn't find reference to such BIOS restrictions with the T61p so come Monday I should be in new ThinkPad heaven :D Can't wait!
