Wifi shuts off every 30 mins or
I just re-installed XP and ran the thinkpad pc Dr and it re loaded all of the apps. The XP isn't registered yet so that maybe why it is shutting down... but is it or could it be something else?
Re: Wifi shuts off every 30 mins or
Go into device manager, and into the advanced properties for the WiFi adapter. Disable any power saving options found there.
Re: Wifi shuts off every 30 mins or
I went into the device manager and did that. It still shuts off. When I click on the wifi icon in the lower left corner no networks show up and when I click the refresh button still no networks show up. If I right click on the wifi button, click repair, it disables the network adapter, re connects it, and then re-establishes the connects.
What else should I try?
As a matter of fact it dropped the connection while i was trying to send this the first time. I did the repair, then back windowed to find this, added this sentence and lets see if I can get this out this time

Is your router set to auto-select channels? If so, try disabling that and select channel 1, 6, or 11 and see if that helps.

The first thing I'd do is toss out Lenovo Access Connections and go with the Windows Zero Configuration. It makes up for its lack of bells and whistles by being solidly reliable. See this article-- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wireless_Z ... figuration. Searching this forum will yield lots of posts bolstering my position.
If the problem persists, see this thread--http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=80712

I'll second the above post. Access Connections has fancy graphics but indeed the wireless connection on my T61 would drop out every half hour or so. I switched to the Windows XP wireless manager and once connected things are much more stable. There's still some left over crap from Access Connections somewhere in my system. When I first log in the Win XP manager tells me I have limited connectivity. After I tell it to repair the connection, it goes through the the repair cycle, and connects properly. Its all in the software somewhere. Under Ubuntu linux 9.10 my wireless connection connects faultlessly when I log in and lasts 'forever' (or at least until I shut down).

This happens to me as well. Glad to know it is not a hardware problem. I've tried everything in the linked thread but I still lose connectivity here and there. Only happens on battery power though (Windows 7, no Access Connections).
