T60P hinge/case click

Hello everyone,

I just got myself a t60p. Its used but looks almost like new. When testing it I noticed a clicking sound when opening the lcd a little bit over 90 degrees, its coming from the left side and not from the hinge but maybe from inside the lcd case. Because the rest of it is in such good condition I really dont want to tear it apart right away and I was wondering if someone has had the same issue with their t60/t60p. Are there any screws to tension inside the lcd cover? Do you think its safe to other components if i just keep using it the way it is?

Here is a clip of the issue, click seems to be coming from above the white sticker

thank you!

My guess is that the hinge has come loose on the left side (it attaches to the LCD frame) or the roller that keeps the LCD cable from binding on the lid/case is not in it's holes. For the frame, it will require at least taking off the LCD bezel to see what's going on. You should be able to see if the roller is in place from the outside if you look carefully.

Could it be the magnesium frame being broken next to the VGA port? I had this in my 14.1" T60 and the symptoms were similar but you could also see the left hinge tilting when you move the display back and forth. Can't quite make it from the video.

ok, I will try to remove the lcd bezel tomorrow and see what is underneath, I`m just little bit scared to do that because the lcd was the main reason I got this machine :D

I would check the motherboard frame first. Check over the fan on the left side, behind the ports. You need to remove the palmrest, keyboard and lcd bezel to do that. (easier than LCD bezel, which is glued/taped in place) I am guessing the frame might be broken. It is very thin in that area. If that is the case, it will get worse and the base will break. I cannot think of anything to click inside the lcd.

I removed the lcd bezel and found where the click was coming from. It was the lcd cables plastic clip/protector/holder. If anybody is interested here is a clip of the click http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHTRwfS2UYk I left it like it was because nothing seemed to be broken or out of place. Thanks everyone for their advice

I called it a 'roller'. That is a common source of noise if it is not in right. On youtube I can see the right side of it is in the slot, but what about the left? On a T60 it's part of the 'cover kit', so it would be expensive from Lenovo. If you actually need that part ask for one on the Marketplace forum here.
