max memory on t61p?

i looked in memoryten and they state 2x2gb for 4gb total, kingston shows 4x4gb total 8gb. anyone know if it really supports 8gb? i have a fellow IT guy in my company that has it running 8gb. just wondered if it is official..

Yes, you can put up to 2x4=8GB in a T61p, if they are of a specific type.

But to use it all, you also need a 64-bit Operating System, such as XP-64, Vista-64 or W7-64.

I believe, recent 32-bit Linux distros should also be able to utilize all 8 GBs of RAM. (64-bit Linux will do it anyway.)

As long as you have a 64-bit OS, 8GB is fine. Even with 4GB and a 64bit OS and ReadyBoost enabled, the T61 is very zippy.
