T60 Ethernet Port?

Recently gave away my T23 & picked up a nice T60. Question. This is my first experience with a Gig Ethernet. Is the port the same as previous ethernet ports? I think mine maybe worn, unless Gig Ethernet ports are slightly larger. A cable I used would move loose & cut my connection. I discovered the lever that locks the plug into ports was getting rather light in spring. When it broke off, I thought the plastic lever was the issue. I tried a short very high quality cable. It locks but does not make the snap sound I am used to hearing when I seat a cable plug in am ethernet port. It does snap and fit snugly in the ports of a never used Ethernet Switch Box.

The "new" cable does lock but there is more out movement when I gently pull on it than I am used to.

I tried a Linksys USB to Ethernet adapter that worked well for me in XP Pro & W2K PRO Systems but Vista Ultimate will not accept it. I cannot find a Vista driver @ Cisco that works.

So, I looked for a replacement internet card or a port. I found ports and cards for everything BUT ethernet.

Is Ethernet hardware and port soldered to the T60 (1.83 MHz) motherboard?

Does anyone know of a PC II or Express Card Ethernet adapter card that has a Vista (Utimate) driver that works?

My advice is to try a STP cable instead - take a look here(shielded cat. 6 utp) - it snap very well in my T60's ethernet port (with clack sound), not like a normal (used and old) utp cat. 5 cable I use frequently (which is a little loose when plugged).

Thank you Billp117 & AIX!!

AIX, I thought I read a few years ago that its best to use a different Ethernet cable type for GB Eth ports. The pic made what you opined crystal clear. Thank you.

Billp117, I checked out cards at Amazon, eBay, & Newegg until my eyes complained (I am visually impaired)! Each one listed had buyers who claimed the Vista drivers choked their system. I know buyer "reviews" are often useless but I also know I could spend a lot of bucks and headache time by just ignoring them. Most did not bother to say what O/S they have. I know XP Pro and W2K Pro auto load anything & Linux distros are amazingly superior to Windoz when it comes to auto hardware ID & install, which is why (I figure) MS pressures (forces?) MS computing cartel members to refuse to cooperate with Linux project groups.

I will look for info on the cards you found on eBay elsewhere (date of release and reviews) to see which ones actually do work with Vista. I thought MS incompatibility pranks would be off Vista and focused on Win7.

I thank both of you for your assistance.
