hi, my display is dimming every 5 minutes or so. i have changed bios settings to high for the display, and have tried to alter power settings to prevent dimming. any idea how to correct this? i do know that upon installation of the most recent bios software, the display brightness indicator changed, and for the worse. this is hard to describe but suffice it to say that the indicator is no longer in color and showing sensitive readings. thanks in advance for your help.

When you say dim would you say it is almost black? If you can see what is on the display faintly or with a flashlight your backlight may be failing.

gab, check "power manager > power scheme tab > idle timers" to see if "lower display brightness" is configured on "never" or not.

Yes...Lenovo changed the the brightness indicator to black and white. I noticed this on my X200 after updating with Thinkvantage Update 4.0.

thanks for your responses -- all are spot on. the display is good but the power manager setting was not on "never" and thus was causing the problem. yes lenovo apparently cheapened the look of the brightness indicator bar in their latest software update.

thanks again for your help!

Hey,

Does anyone know if we can go back to the old style Volume and Brightness displays, the ones that were green with vertical bars?

Thanks.
