T60 ignores AC power after fan swap

Hey all!
I've run into a couple of problems with my 2007-FUG T60. Until quite recently, it worked perfectly, even when subjected to quite a bit of abuse, including a major soda spill a couple of years ago. Some weeks ago, the fan started making weird noises and generally rotating too fast, so I went and ordered a new one.
With the service manual at hand, replacing the fan was a non-issue and dealt with in half an hour or so. After that, everything worked for a couple of hours, until the laptop (on AC) spontanteously un-detected the AC power source and switched to battery power. I swapped the AC adapter for another one and even checked both of them with a multimeter -- they work fine. The laptop works fine, too; but only from battery.
Has this happened to any of you? How do I get it working again as quickly (and cheaply) as possible?

Did you check whether you can get AC power on a docking station? Does the AC jack looked damaged?

The AC jack is working. I've even opened up the Laptop, plugged in AC and measured the voltage at the internal plug connecting the AC jack and main board -- up to that point, everything is fine.
Testing a docking station sounds like quite a great idea. I'll have to try and find one. Will report back as soon as possible.

Did you replace the entire heatsink, or only the fan? What kind of temps. are you getting for your CPU and GPU? I've been using PC Wizard (currently at v1.93) for over 10 years and my T60p went through random shutdowns yesterday, I carefully cleaned the fan removing all dust that had accumulated and used isopropyl to remove all silver paste that was on the heat sink and on my CPU and GPU from my last tune-up. I then applied a fresh coat (significantly less this time) and now I have both CPU cores working UNDER 50C(!) when idle. I still can't believe it. Even when set to High Performance and throwing some CPU-intensive tasks at my machine, the fan does reliably get rid of the heat better than it has before, ever.

Tip: As opposed to every previous time that I went through this process, this time, I let it sit overnight, which I believe made quite a difference. In fact, after doing some more research, I found a few articles that suggested that it is a good idea to "break in" a fresh coat.

Can I ask where you got your heatsink and/or fan assembly? I'm still using the one that came with my T60p, but I don't want to be caught with my pants down if the darn thing stops working all of a sudden.

Let us know how you make out with your situation and good luck to you.

I replaced the whole heat sink. Getting just the fan out of there wouldn't probably be an easy feat, with all the tape and stuff. I can't measure any temps, but they wouldn't be an issue anyways: as long as the battery held some charge, everything would function beautifully; it just won't accept any AC power; even when turned off.
A replacement T60 is on it's way and I guess I may be trying some stuff to get it working again. We shall see.
Oh, and about the source: I got the fan from Laptop Parts for Less (which is actually located at notebookpartsforless.com). $30 plus reasonable shipping. The store owner can be reached at borntovin04@aol.com, one FRU for the whole fan assembly for an ATi-equipped T60 is 41V9932. Good luck :)
