T60p 15.4 Wide Screen Problem

#1 Post by msk » Wed May 05, 2010 8:09 pm

I have a T60p with ATI video that the bottom 2/3 of screen has a blank across it. If I squeeze the screen or move it a little it will come in and out. Had screen replaced 6 months ago with the same problem. Is this specific to an LCD display? What is the Problem? Very frustrating?

Any help Please!!

My guess is that the upper case (lid) or hinge is bent, or the antenna wires are not running correctly. If you strain the panel, it can cause similar problems. If you have WWAN, you have to be more careful because there is the extra (red) wire on the right side of the screen.

The problem is a loose row driver on the left side of the LCD. There are normally 3 row drivers on the left side and I've seen a few LCDs with the bottom row driver causing the bottom of the LCD to remain black. If you apply pressure and squeeze the left side of the LCD lid at that spot, the screen will display properly. Once you let go, the bottom portion will "freeze" and start to turn white, then fade to black.

There's not much you can do to fix it, unless you never close your laptop again (poor man fix in this case). If this is the second time this problem has happened, either you are incorrectly handling your laptop or your lid has defects like richk said. :??:
