T60 powers up after system is shut down for the night

I searched the forum and could not find a reference to this topic. One of my users has a T60 connected to a mini dock. User shuts down for the night and he finds it powered on and at the windows login prompt in the morning. He travels a lot and this does not happen when he is out of the office. It only happens on the mini dock. It just started happening early this week. We thought perhaps the cleaning crew was pressing the power button by accident but made it impossible to press the power button accidently last night and it still powered itself on.
Has anyone run across this phenomenon? :?: OS: Windows XP SP3. BIOS 2.25. This is my first post to this forum... Thanks for your help.

Hello Dmccreary,

welcome to the forum. I've seen the same thing happen in Vista. After Windows has installed updates automatically, it often needs to be re-booted. If the user doesn't shut down Windows, but hibernates the notebook instead, the notebook never gets re-booted. The notebook then wakes up from hibernation without any user interaction. I have German Vista here, so i'm not familiar with the original English Windows terms and vocabulary, but in the drop-down-menu that is used to shut down or hibernate Windows, there ought to be an additional entry similar to "Install updates and shut down Windows". That's the way to go.

While it's a rare possibility, it could also be the Wake On LAN function in the BIOS' Network menu.
