FYI: Atheros 802.11a/b/g driver for Windows 7

#1 Post by vinuneuro » Tue May 25, 2010 7:29 pm

Lenovo doesn't have a Win7 driver for this card and what Win7 automatically installs does not work. I found this third party driver and it's fully functional including with Access Connections.

Beware, do not use 9.0.0.173, the meter will show poor reception always despite it being excellent. The one that works properly is 8.0.0.316:

That's an impressive collection. None of version 9.x drivers for the Thinkpad card work it seems. The latest version out of that that works for me is 8.0.0.316. Thanks for the link.

The Atheros driver that comes via Windows 7 update works fine for me. With the first one, there was a problem the driver causing BSODs from time to time, but this was fixed quite long time ago by a driver update (from Atheros, again provided via Windows 7 update). What is more, the wireless LED blinks again according to the current wireless activity as it used to be (at least for me).

What version are you on now? The wifi blinks with activity although the frequency is a generally a bit higher than with the Intel.

That is funny, Device Manager says driver version is 2.0.0.75, lol... I guess I am using pretty outdated driver...

Just FYI, I'm using an off-brand Atheros which couldn't get recognized automatically by Win7 and which works fine with the 9.x drivers on an X41T.

I would say if your card is recognized by Win7, stick with the suggested driver or the Lenovo ones.

Cheers.
