Lid Latch repair difficulty on T60?

OK, T60 gurus, I need some input. I bought a T60, 2007-46U, last weekend off Craigslist. Great screen, good keyboard, corners worn on the lid but everything seems to function well. The seller knocked of $10 more when I noticed the right lid latch was broken. Left one works but right side has the little hook gone, so the laptop doesn't close snugly but it does close. I checked the HMM for the T60 14" screen and it looks like I would have to replace the lid assembly in order to replace that latch. Any better suggestions? Or please point me to some instructions. Using Search for latch repair was frustrating, LCD/lid swaps from search did not encourage me to try this and did not mention the latch. The screen is a beautiful XGA or I wouldn't have bought it, so I don't need to change out the LCD.
Thanks in advance for your support!
Leslie

I'm not a T6x guru but the lid latches should be able to be replaced by themselves. The HMM shows the entire lid assembly as the "LCD cover kit", with the two latches and connecting rod as components of that kit. Going by past experience with other Thinkpads, you can take the LCD bezel off and gain access to the latches, spring(s), etc. The problem is that it's hard to find an FRU or part number for just the latches. If you can't find any reference here in the forums using the site's search function, then go on eBay and look for it :) . Here's one item found using the search string: (ibm, thinkpad, lenovo) t60* (latch*,hook*)

Thanks Ray! have you ordered parts from this seller before? I see a few other things I would be inclined to pick up as well. Would you advise taking off the LCD assembly from the base and then unscrewing the screws around the bezel to get the cover off? Not really sure I want to tackle this one myself but at least I now know where to find the right parts!

No, I don't believe I've ever purchased any items from this eBay seller. If you want to do some research on a seller's feedback, use this site: http://toolhaus.org/ Plug in the seller's eBay ID in the "Negative/Neutral Feedback" box and click the "Received by" button and you'll get a list of only their negatives and neutrals. Beats scrolling through page after page from the eBay site. I have ordered many items from Hong Kong and have not had any problems. It just might take a few more days to get to you.

On most (if not all) systems, all you have to do to remove the LCD bezel is to pop off the round stickers that cover the screw holes, take out the screws, then carefully un-snap/slide off the bezel from the lid. No need to go through the additional trouble to remove the lid assembly from the base.

thanks again Ray! for both the ebay feedback tip and the info about popping the LCD bezel off-I think I could handle that, I was just worried about messing things up if I have to take the whole thing off at the hinges and pull it all apart!

Just be careful not to bugger the wifi antenna placement. Don't let them pop out and you should be fine.
