I had to replace screen on my 2007-FHG due to malfunctioning screen. I have noticed that the problem is pretty common (horizontal lines appearing/disappearing depending on lid flexing):
screen 1
screen 2
Any ideas if this can be repaired? Note - it IS NOT the cable!

Re: Common BOE-Hydis IPS' problem?
More than likely it has a few bad row drivers in the LCD. There are row driver tabs bonded to the glass and these can go bad. The fix is to replace the LCD...no repair.
Re: Common BOE-Hydis IPS' problem?
Anything can be repaired.. it's just a question of costs.
http://www.moniserv.com/doc/panelrepair.html lists a type (ACF) which they can repair, but by simple inspection this is not the type of bonding required in laptop LCDs.
From http://www.hitachi-displays-eu.com/doc/ ... ethods.pdf i'd say the solution which is applied in laptop panels is TCP with heatseal.
These people claim to offer Heatseal recovery: http://www.febaelectronics.com/?title=l ... r&menuid=9 ... but as to the success rate i don't know. Cheap? Almost certainly not, but if you are a company relying on a specific display to function (for example in avionics) which is non-standard, it would be more than worth it.

Re: Common BOE-Hydis IPS' problem?
If it is pressure-related, it is possible it was a problem in antenna cable routing after a repair. I have seen cases where rerouting cables fixes this problem, especially if the is the extra WWAN antenna
Re: Common BOE-Hydis IPS' problem?
Nope, in my case the lines appear even at very light pressure - caused only by lid imperfections. If I took out the LCD off the lid, the image was flawless, if i only very lightly squeezed /rotatad the metal frame- the lines appeared; only at very special squeezes/rotations of lid the lines were gone - but such position was ALWAYS attainable.richk wrote:If it is pressure-related, it is possible it was a problem in antenna cable routing after a repair.
